KRESS Employment Screening Offers New CBSV Verification Tool

Background check provider gives HR Professionals Another Way To Verify Employment Backgrounds

HOUSTON, Texas—January 14, 2009—KRESS Employment Screening, a licensed investigations company (TX-A06712) that provides employers with background checks, is now offering a new service called CBSV or Consent Based Social Security Number Verification.

For years, clients have had access to E-Verify, a program that tells employer in a post-employment phase whether or not the new employee is eligible to work in the U.S. In addition to E-Verify, KRESS Employment Screening is providing clients with CBSV, a service that will let employers know that the name, date of birth and social security number match information maintained by the Social Security Administration (SSA). This program can be used as a component of a standard pre-employment background check.

There are several differences between E-Verify and the CBSV:

  1. CBSV can be run prior to or during employment versus E-Verify which is only available within the first three days of employment.
  2. CBSV does require a specific consent form signed by the applicant that is only valid for 90 days typically.
  3. CBSV does not tell employers whether or not the employee/applicant is eligible for employment but it does indicate that the name and social security number match.

KRESS Employment Screening also provides SS Trace that most background check companies offer as a "verification". But most informed customers know that this is not a "verification" but a "trace" that indicates use of the number, name variations and address history. For a more complete picture of a prospective employee's background, KRESS Employment Screening suggests that HR Professionals use all three of these services.

CBSV will tell employers that the name and number match. An SS Trace used in a screening package will assist in conducting a thorough background check. And finally, E-Verify will indicate that the employee is eligible to work in the U.S.
