Background check provider launches new service aimed at assisting Healthcare Providers
HOUSTON, Texas—January 6, 2009—KRESS Employment Screening, a licensed investigations company (TX-A06712) that provides employers with background checks, can now give healthcare providers access to the National Practitioner Data Bank-Healthcare Integrity and Protection Data Bank (NPDB-HIPDB). In this one search, healthcare providers such as hospitals can ascertain whether doctors, nurses and other medical practitioners have any license suspension history or are precluded from receiveing or working with government programs such as Medicare or Medicaid.
The National Practitioner Data Bank (NPDB) was established under Title IV of Public Law 99-660, the Health Care Quality Improvement Act of 1986. NPDB is an information clearinghouse to collect and release information related to the professional competence and conduct of physicians, dentists, and other healthcare practitioners.
The Healthcare Integrity and Protection Data Bank (HIPDB), was established under section 1128E of the Social Security Act as added by Section 221(A) of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996. HIPDB was implemented to combat fraud and abuse in health insurance and health care delivery and to promote quality care. HIPDB alerts users that a more comprehensive review of past actions by a practitioner, provider or supplier may be prudent.
