A Special Message from KRESS

KRESS Employment Screening would like to send out best wishes and prayers to all our clients affected by Hurricane Ike. We want to let everyone know that, as Houstonians, we saw firsthand the destruction left in the wake of this terrible storm. We know that it will take some clients time to get back to normal. If there is anything KRESS can do to make this process a bit easier on you or your staff, please contact us.

As for the KRESS team, no one was injured and no one suffered any serious property damage. Also, the KRESS facilities were not damaged. Other than an extended period without power, the offices are completely unharmed and fully operational.

But like every dark cloud, KRESS found the silver lining in the aftermath of this powerful storm. KRESS implemented and tested its disaster recovery plan that includes complete off-site data storage and retrieval, temporary office relocation and telecommunications access strategies so that our clients both here in Houston and throughout the country can maintain contact with the KRESS staff.

Again, we thank everyone for all the kind thoughts and prayers that have been sent our way.

If you would like to make a contribution and help those in need, please visit the Red Cross website at http://www.redcross.org.

Beware of Work Related Stress

In these stressful times, it’s important to remember that stress can cause a severe reduction in employee productivity. Many companies that go through stressful situations find it best to let the employees deal with personal issues as they arise versus forcing them to stay in place. The lack of focus not to mention the ill-feelings left with the employee can cause a productivity drop that can negatively impact the bottom line of the business.

There are two types of stress that employers need to be aware of. First is eustress, a positive and healthy stress that accompanies achievement and exhilaration. On the opposite side of the scale is dystress, a harmful stress that is characterized by diminished feelings of security and adequacy. Anything that causes a feeling of helplessness, desperation and disappointment can turn normal daily stress into dystress.

Remember, stress leads to burnout ... and employee burnout is a major reason for employee dissatisfaction. We all know that happy employees are productive employees. See the "Getting More" section for some helpful tips to reduce workplace stress.

Sincerely,

Jeff Rackler, CEO

Consumer Awareness of Unsafe Service Employment Campaign Launched Recently

Last month, a nationwide consumer safety campaign was launched from here in Texas to help consumers identify companies who do perform regular background checks on their employees who will at times enter into the homes of consumers to provide various types of service.

"The Consumer Awareness of Unsafe Service Employment (C.A.U.S.E.) Certification campaign was launched on the seven year anniversary of the death of Sue Weaver, who was raped and beaten to death in her Orlando home by a worker sent to clean her air ducts," reports EarthTimes.org. "Although a twice-convicted sex offender on parole, the company did not do a background check before hiring him."

C.A.U.S.E. was founded by Weaver's sister, Lucia Bone.

"The C.A.U.S.E. Team has spent two years developing a certification program and has already received applications from several service providers employing more than 650 in-home workers," explains Bone.

"Our homes should be our sanctuaries -- they should feel like the safest place in the world," said Texas Governor Rick Perry.
